My next blog was going to be on what I which race I thought was the most outstanding, best horse race in 2016. Sorry readers, that will be a great blog. But it is going to have to take a back seat to what race may be the most exciting race in 2017 with the most recent news that California Chrome, Arrogate and now Keen Ice have been confirmed for the 2017 Pegasus World Cup Invitational. NOW, we have more than a match race of Chrome vs Arrogate with 10 other wannabee runners/superfecta hopefuls. We have an actual horse race with $12 million dollars at stake.

Keen Ice is a horse that has proven that he is capable of the upset. He is the only living horse to beat a Triple Crown Champion when he shocked the Travers crowd last year. See video below. Note that he is now trained by Todd Pletcher.

At 9 furlongs, I don’t like his chances as well in this race. But admittedly, I didn’t like his chances to spring an upset of American Pharoah in the Travers Stakes in late August of 2015 either. Keen Ice is rounding into form after a 3rd place finish in the Breeders Cup Classic after a long layoff recovering from a cannon bone injury.  Then he finished 2nd in last start, the 8 1/2 furlong Harlan’s Holiday Stakes behind Stanford.

I like his chances in races greater than 8 1/2 furlongs, preferably 10 furlongs. However, I am betting that he will get plenty of early speed in this one that suits his closer running style.

Game on as they say….
